Shajaraian died on Thursday at Jam Hospital in the Iranian capital city of Tehran at the age of 80.
Fans of Iran’s most celebrated contemporary singer gathered outside the hospital on Thursday, holding candles and singing his songs.
Shajarian, also known as the maestro of classical Persian music, was adored by fans around the world.
He won many awards, including the UNESCO's Picasso Medal for outstanding contribution to the arts in 1999.
Shajarian is survived by his wife as well as three daughters and two sons.
He will be laid to rest in his hometown, Mashhad, next to the mausoleum of well-known Persian poet Ferdowsi.
